SUSTAINABILITY AT SALOMÉ
House of Salomé believes in conscience creation. We ensure that all our clothing and prints are manufactured in ethical factories based in the UK and Portugal. In order to have real transparency on the line of production, these factories are frequently audited to maintain sustainable and fair working conditions.
Our supply chain seeks to develop long-term relationships with partners that are on the cutting edge of design, performance and regenerative production. As part of our brand ethos, we maintain close relationships with suppliers who share our social and environmental commitments, and we coordinate with them in a spirit of cooperation, responsibility and fairness. This responsibility is not one directional, therefore we strive to launch with frameworks to evaluate and understand our impact, and take measures to ensure that our processes are reliable, transparent, and fair. To House of Salomé, a commitment to promoting and protecting human rights, personal health and safety towards the environment, is essential to doing business.

PRINTING
At House of Salomé we use Direct-to-Garment printing (DTG), also known as digital apparel printing. A ground-breaking technology that surfaced in the late 90’s, representing a shift from traditional printing methods. Following in the footsteps of ordinary home printers, Direct-To-Garment printers print designs directly onto garments instead of paper. It, essentially, uses inkjet technology to print directly onto various textiles and garments. DTG printing uses special digital printers to spray water-based inks directly onto our apparel, producing high-resolution, visually sharp images from digital files.
By utilising DTG printing, we gain an advantage in environmental friendliness. Traditional screen printing uses higher ink consumption, often leading to overproduction which results in excess clothing being thrown away. DTG printing allows low energy consumption and minimum ink waste. Our water-based inks and organic dyes are non-hazardous (OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT Certified) and align with House of Salomé’s commitment to sustainability.

REGENERATIVE MANUFACTURING
In order to define what sustainable production looks like for House of Salomé, we are working with our partners in Portugal and a number of academics and experts, to review our current operations and create an infrastructure that will propel us towards achieving a net positive future. This blueprint can then be applied by other brands to their manufacturing hubs, to be used as a positive catalyst on global manufacture. From a factory performance perspective, a few of the things we’re looking at are; renewable energy generation and storage, closed loop water and waste cycles, raw materials from regenerative agricultural practices, B Corporation aligned business models, biomimicry inspired factory design and processes, and community integrated nature spaces both inside and outside of factory buildings. We have to work in close collaboration with each and every one of our suppliers throughout this process. House of Salomé will retain these social and environmental principles which are woven into the heart of the business. We are fortunate to work with people who support and share our ambitions. Collectively, we need to assure that progress aligns with purpose and that we’re having the right type of impact on the planet and our stakeholders.
Regenerative materials, design, and agriculture practices are foundational elements to our manufacturing processes. It requires us to analyse everything from how raw materials are grown, to how materials are processed, through to assembly and production in factories and the cross-industry coordination required to deliver this. In the shadow of the climate emergency, the urgency of transitioning supply chain impacts towards net positive action cannot be stressed enough. We are eager to collaborate with cross-industry experts and innovators alike, to learn and share knowledge, to push the narrative on this as fast as we collectively can.
